Kuching: An enlightment Vol 1
First thing first.Travelling makes me nauseous. Ever heard of motion-sickness?Well, i’m a among the unlucky masses.
so when my uncles and aunties plan on a 130 km ride to sri aman, sarikei and batang ai, i wasn’t exactly thrilled to tell u the truth. dread is more like it.
On the plus point, imagine 7 full grown men and women (my family of course) being jumbled up in a kia spectra for a 6 hour ride.
Not exactly a nice picture.
uc, sarawak is larger than peninsular malaysia, so lets just put that the ride to miri is equavalent to a complete , solid 12 hours journey from seremban to perlis back and forth, without the pleasure of R&R.
but tell u what, i came back fine, vomit-less, headache-less, and un-nauseaous.
i think the long journey kindof harden u up. orang melayu kata "alah bisa , tegal biasa."
in fact this is the best journey i’ve gone through so far,,regardless of the non-existent super mega malls, theme parks straight highways or simply roti gardenia( they dont even have hi-fi over here, can u believe it?)
i’ve learned that it turns out that padi huma or padi bukit is literally padi being planted on bukit, imagine bukit2 yg kite lalu tepi highway yg full of bushes, so transform that image into pokok padi.i’ve learned how to distinguish lada hitam and lada putih and witness the very own pokok itself. i’ve learned how to apreciate greenery, bcoz i know and we all know u can never witness greenery that much back in semenanjung( sarawakians call us "orang malaya" or "orang semenanjung") amidst all the pembangunan.
and the people, the longhouses ,the food, oh man the food is simply georgeous even tho i thought the lack of " pedas " in its food a little disappointing. mi kolok, mi sapi, laksa sarawak, mi belacan n cucur , kuih cincin, ais krim with gula apung, air pisang..they just completes my heaven.
my message is, come to sarawak. u never regret it.(ada bunyik2 camelia tak?)
