Magic: the wave i dont undesrstand

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

No, i’m not talking about magic tricks, david copperfield , mondo magic or any kind of that stuff
Its the board game. Magic, the board game.
i only read about them in the paper Life & Times, but  i never knew theres a group in my area who are devoted to this game.

Coming to that, it includes one very cute malay boy whose a great sport, explaining to me whats the craze all about.

The most difficult thing to understand is, how in their common sense they are willing to sacrifice at least RM 11.oo per week to buy the cards.( 15 card booster packs).
The cards are somewhat have different categories depending on the ‘expansions’, Unhinged, Torture, Kamigawa, Saviour, Ravnica(the most popular) and the latest one , Guiltpact.

When Guiltpact, was due to be released on the 4 th of february, we’ve already got the stocks come in the night before.
The situation is like when Harry Potter books going to b released the next day.
People are actually forming a group around my stall and wait… since 6.oo p.m( the stocks come in at 8.00 p.m)
And when they do arrive, its like a shopping spree, some even buy 10 booster packs( a guy wearing a black Guiltpact t-shirt) at one time, mind u, the total costs around RM 11.x10 = Rm110

What puzzles me, how do they play these things? even the dice ( RM 10) was not the nomal rectangular shape. its a 3-D hexagonal( like a disco ball) with numbers ranging from 1 to 23 .

Astonishingly, RM 11.oo only covers the cards, the Ultra -Pro Deck protector costs around 12. 90 each, and these fanatics actually purchases them.

In the end of the day, its me whos having the last laugh…( $$$$ kaching!)

For reference only:
M1OOO-Magic Deck( RM 35.90)
M116-Kamigawa( RM11.00)
M125-Ravnica(RM 11.00)
M126-Guiltpact(RM11.00)
M117-Savior( RM11.00)
A102-Ultra-pro Deck Protector with a choice of tsunami Blue, Pink and Pitch black( 12.90)

We also sell pokemon booster packs, Decks ,magazine and box, Duel master booster packs, Yu Gi -Oh booster , neopets, gameking tapes, gameboy tapes, and asssorted digimons at a negotiable price.
Please contact hanani , for details and purchases.

lone ranger: the british council journey

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

Alone.In the LRT
I wonder how does british council looks like?
Moms said depan KLCC. One reason for joy of course.

before entering Wisma Selangor Dredging, the security guard ran a metal detector around me.
i give him the do-i-look-like-a-terrorist? look
he gave me an apologetic its-bcoz-of the-9/11-sorry look with a crooked smile.
i wouldnt be surprised. its a UK building.
terrorist would love to put their home -made bombs among the bright coloured coushions.(lime green, anyone?)

The moment i step in, big red letters saying "UK education, the best education u can get" emblazoned across a white wall. Hm. Something Tony Blair would say.
Inside also some snobbish UK flyers about the how the worldwide web creator, david beckham, DNA founder, alexander graham Bell all are products from British education.
Hah! how far-fetched. i mean..seriously..David Beckham?

Funnily enough, its the Arabs who dominated the place, apart from japanese and koreans, also some french sounded mat salleh.

we were hauled into a room by a supervisor who speaks with a heavy Upper-side London accent.
Its a written test first. The questions are very tacky. they really test ur level of english. These kinds of question should b made in the PMR or SPM questions.
it looks easy, but needs real familiarity with the language to get the answers correct.

Then the interview.
the inteviewer reminds me of a young Proffesor McGonaggal .She even have the same voice.
What strikes me as something peculiar is having a foreigner knowing what is SPM and how teenagers love KLCC.and how we love teh tarik, nasi lemak, and mamak stalls.
its like having a budak akaun telling  what is mitosis and meiosis to a budak science stream.
Get it?

here u go. u’ll b enrolled in the !@##$%^^ ( information had to b disclosed to reduce risk of gloating)
Thank u.

Now what? baru pukol 12? well KLCC…here i come..after lunch at DOME cafe and zohor prayers.
One movie wouldnt hurt right?
BULI BALIK SANGAT BEST >>KENE TGK>>>ORIGINAL JOKES < CONFIRM GELAK HABIS>>>AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE  PROMINENT MALAY MOVIE SCEPTIC OF ALL TIMES< FARAH HANANI SHAMSUDDIN>>

Mind u . i hv my lunch, buy tickets, watch movie, round KLCC , naik LRT all  Alone and On My Own.
Its no fun at all.
Imagine gelak sorg2 dlm panggung.
Pathetic.

Ps; this is my 30th post. how yea!

My first pay-day

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

I just cant help from not being smug.after all, i just received my first salary.
My wallets stuffed with an amount of money i could never imagine of getting my hands on  them.and when i do, i wonder why it just feels so  right. a perfect fit.

i’ know i’ve matured over the past few weeks.handling a shop all on ur own is no walk in the park.u’re responsible for everything. The stuff must have the right amount, any loss will b accounted to me.The money should b kept safe at all times.Do whatever it takes to increase the sales.

After a while, ur gonna take it personally.
This is my business also.
When the sales are dissappointing, u take it in as a personal insult.
The same case goes if u bag in over RM 500 for one day, u’re very proud of urself. its like a personal achievement.(well, the komisyen tempted me also)
And ur boss becomes ur mother figure.
She makes sure i eat, givs me day -off if i look tired, thanking me in her own ways, never yells at me on a mistake but rather show me how to solve problems.
i’m very thankful to hv a great employer.

And it makes all the difference
i became  more ikhlas when i work…
No grudges.No hatred.No hard feelings.
Just plain passion and willingness.
i wouldnt trade the experience 4 anything

Now, if u excuse me ladies and gentlemen..
i hv work to do..

Note: hanani is not working on weekdays anymore bcoz she enrolls in a full-time english course. She now works on weekends only from 10 am-10 pm

A rookie worker’s dilemma

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

its indeed a small world.when ur stuck in asrama, u never taste what is real world.
u asked fo it, hanani… u got it in ur face.

one call . thats all it takes to subject my whole life schedule to a major overhaul
"u nak kerja ke?"
" ha’ah’
‘ dtg pkol 4 kt carrefour wangsa maju"

first impression? alah ..kacang goreng jer.jaga stall je kan?
scratch that thought.
its more that gets to the eye.

Completely complicated.Add a boss , working alone, and a jealous streamyx promoter beside u,i’ll assure u , u will know how  does real world feels like.

sometimes its exciting, u get 2 meet all sorts of people and each with different antiques.
i’ve got korean, japanese, negros, arabs and actors coming in 2 my stall.

the money’s good, 8 days of work ,ure guaranteed a RM @*%( information disclosed due 2 security policy) in ur hand.

the best part is, the whooooole, block of stalls selling ubat, waterfalls, filter air, kedai arked, kedai prepaid and the security guard bcomes ur buddy.they ‘e very helpful when u go  4 prayers .they do the lookout and sell 4 us when were not there.

the bad news is, well i dont exactly categoise this in the bad news section as i learn something from these incidents…u learn the bad side of a person in the working arena.that people, how fair they may look,it might not b the case with their heart.
it will turn into a headache, when evryone is bad-mouthing everyone behind ur backs  , everyone says different stories, up to the point u duno who to trust.
so u take the middle ground. Just listen and shut up.

last week, one friend of mine, ai ying( her real name) was fired on the eve of chinese new year bcoz of stealing money.just a few minutes before that we were having a happy chat about how she wanna buy mandarin oranges for her grandma and ang pows 4 her adik2.(incidentally, it was her pay-day 2..)

another kakak beside me was always criticising me the way i manage my stall, and at every convenient second ,paint a very bad picture about my boss. she’s the ex-worker of my stall, u c..she stopped working because she had a big fall-out  with her ex-boss(my boss). she said she was victimised. before i could even feel sorry fo her , she went out and ponteng keja, went for lunches with her boyfriend and always not in her stall.it turns out that her habit of getting day-offs anytime she likes gets in the nerve of my boss.

working alone is hectic, i got down with a fever for two days bfore my body get used to the changes.(read:sleep, TV, eat to work, stand and sell)
checking the stocks( about 8 pages of them), putting in the price tag, counting the money, arranging, putting in new stocks, handling problem customers, nuisance in form of kids, opening and closing the shop(THAT is another story).
especially on weekends, u get people fom both sides and both sides ae requesting for low pirice

My typical working day would go a bit like this:

" Ni berapa ni dik?"
" 29.20 , kak, tapi saya boleh bagi 28 ringgit kalau kakak nak.."
" 25 tak boleh?"
" tak boleh kak ..tak untung la mcm nh.."
" bolehlah dik..(with muka seposen)
"27 lah kak, paling lowest…"
" 26.50?"

alahaiii………..c? some customers dont really care beza singgit ke 50 sen ke, they just wanna win in the haggling game.

remember i mentioned that its a small world after all? uc..my classmate for 5 years works within 0.5 metre radius fom me. and boy, how he have a lot of stories to tell..

i would like to wish "Kong Hei Fatt Choy" to my boss, Auntie Christine, my dear friend, Echo Leh,Ah ying, Ah Koo and all my chinese friends.May u all have a prosperous Year of The DOG.

P/S_ thank u for the ang pows

Goodbye and may the force b with u.

No more spending 6 dollars per day for an LRT trip to PJ as early as 7.30. No more lunches and teh tarik with Andrew, genevie, aishah, hakim, Bikesh, Charlyle, and eric. Sigh*

PROGRAMMING 101

This is my favoutite branch.i feel like an adult when i completed programing course, i even programmed a program.Cool is the right word for it.But very meticulous. This is where the money comes in the computer industry apart from security.Nevertheless, Mike ( the instructor) said its like driving and riding a bike, u hv difficulties at first, and then it just came naturally.i strongly advise my friends to take up programing.

u play alot with  simple mathematics with words. doesnt make sense isnt it?. but it does in programming..
how to ceate buttons yg highlight when the  mouse enters and hilang bile mouse leaves the button, or even button 2 hilang bile mouse dtg.
what i programmed is a student’s grading system. i start from scratch ..from inserting buttons, naming them, inserting spaces the fonts, the size the colour. when i coplete encrypting all the codes.., u just have to key in ur marks for three exams, know ur grade( an "F" will b highlighted red) and each grade u dpt will come along with a pop-up( eg: "An F? better stop schooling now , hanani"). well, of course i have to programme a system  that said "please enter students name:" everytime u start.the end results was fantastic.
those who get an A will b able to surf the internet with the link " GO" i put while others who didnt , the " GO" button will not function. An A scorer will b praised with a pop-up" (way to go! keep it  up , hanani!) complete with " tada" background music.

how do u do that? how can u type in 3 exam marks and it will automatically programmed it s grade?how do i make it specifically that only  proven A graders can surf the internet while others cannot?
Thats why u have to take on programming. ;)

Hacker :a beginners guide

NETWORKING 101

All hackers begin with basic knowledege of networking.i regret i didnt enroll into this course when i was still in school bcoz i could have easily, take-over the schools computer, curi files, saved exam papers witout me being there , hohoho. all i need is a silly IP address of the computer which i can get in 2 seconds. One advice to teachers. never ever simpan exam files in computer bilik guru, or openly buat soalan periksa in public. u have no idea how easily people can freezes ur computer, takeover and share ur files sesuka hati while u doing ur questions. at least i know how to do it. put passwords as a precaution in confidential files, tulis "sulit ‘ saja would not b enough.

How? u uses alot of commands. try clicking Run and type " cmd " or "command". one big black screen will appear. This is where we start. i can send u spam right now if i want to. u just hv 2 know the right command(some sort of codes).. to write, conveniently it is embedded in my brain. hahahaha

Thank God we have passwords.

becoming a tech-whiz…(as if!)

" cogito, ergo sum" the widely used  latin phrase, " i think, therefore i am" ( refer to halian’s and nab’s blog) leaves little significance to school leavers like me.For those whose shakespearean english is not their cup of tea, let me b your saving grace. The meaning should be" i’m still alive because i make use of my brain" or around that. And, before i extensively underusing my brain and shorten my life-span, i signed myself up 4 computer course.for those who’re alreadyy in colleges, hurrrayyy..!may u live a long and prosperous life.

First day: MULTIMEDIA 101

now i can belagak depan all those people like kamarul, hariz, aimi nas, farhan razak that i too , can master the special effects of multimedia. the class is focused on we, dumbers who never ever know whatt is flash and swish and suddenly become and expert in movie making, video presentation and photo editing in 15 minutes. the key is to use other softwares, which is less complicated, user-friendly , idiot-designed and can provide the same results as the more complex programmes.Opt 4 microsoft movie -maker,GIMP, and Photo-story instead.
its very handy especially if u need a WOW presentation to blow spectators minds in  a short  notice.with only half an hour, one visual-effects laden photo presentation can be done complete with caption, background voice( "ini saya kat tepi tugu negara..") and soundtracks. believe me, no tutorials needed ,only follow the step by step guidelines.
Also, a boring photo can become cartooned, sephiad, black and white, acrylic paint, crayon, poster, embossed(macam ukiran kat pewter) and if u wanna add a "sun" ( macam ada spot yg berkilauan konon matahari kat situ), by all means please feel free to explore ur imagination.
as for me, i made my own movie 4 that day entitled " Charlie Chaplin antiques" which come along with the whole package,.. scratchy screen, grainy picture, titles, countdowns, and credits….heyhey..

Revenge with a capital R

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

REVENGE! i  must say…bware everyone, thy should be afraid…behold the message" Farah hanani has updated her friendster blogs" ten times a day !At last ..my corrupted computer has returned to life, providing the much needed service to its faithful owner after 2 weeks of laying down sick due to bloody Trojan horse.

I moved on though,,getting a job, went to comp course , registering at British council, driving license…i guess i cannot live with the fact the trusted typing machine had somewhat unfunctioning..so i decided to keep myself busy ratherr than mourn…
