Budi bahasa budaya kita……

I promised an MIC post but i ditched it as i thought a piece about two politicians ranting are not worth commenting. No pun intended to any Kana, Aisyvarya or Kayathri.Besides, in the light of the disputable Reader’s Digest survey, highlighting a genuine display of plain rudeness between subra and palani felt somewhat inapropriate.

So , i would like to join the chorus of angry protesters who rejected the survey because we’re supposedly the epitome of gentility, arent we.?

How can we be wrong?

We’re constantly reminded in every turn that graciousness is our pride. While neighbouring countries traditionally promoted their ancient monuments and great escapades, we built our own tourism industry on the back of our great outdoors and personal warmth. In simpler terms, people come here for our nature and us.

And we had been unwaveringly curbed the manner of individualism in favour of communitarian virtue. Plus the fact we’ve been grounded in religious values also chipped in its part  malaysians being more apreciative of each other.

"This is an outrage ,it cant be true, this is an attempt to discredit our alma mater and challenge our sovereignity.!"- some balding politician with a songkok

But oh wait. I thought  i saw The Malaysians described above in a tourism billboard.Time for reality check everyone, things that many have noticed for the last few years may just had been confirmed.

QUICK REALITY CHECK

As far as KL folks to be concerned, we deserved to be at the relegation zone in this table of civil cities. How many times a car just zoomed its way ahead of us , no signal and all, let alone a mere thank you, catching us off guard. But then again i can recount countless time i ‘ve been greeted by middle fingered salutes and sneering catcalls walking alone in KL.Truthfully, it is plausible  if KLfolks  labelled having low concious of courtesy, and me being one of its residents, its a fact hard to swallow.

We feared for this for quite a long time, and our fears had come knocking onto our doors, .In our march for material development, the critical part of parallel good morals continuancy had escaped us yet again. This is a good reminder that  we are waayyy off course in achieving Vision 2020 as civility should come hand in hand with physical progress as stated in the mainframe.

CRIKES.WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?

Swell ,i’m not among the people who champion guidelines or legislations.I have faith in the family institution.Dont do things that you dont want your kids to do. Parents are the golden standard for their children so effective parenting is demanded.I heard that civic studies were introduced in school syllabus but i hope its not treated as just another subject.Although it is not my intention to undermine the positive move, but to my dismay subjects in schools are often confined to  academic teachings without any active role played .

And for heavens’s sake, when the building blocks are firmly placed, please apply the virtues learnt evenly. Malaysians are unabashedly gracious to foreigners but when it comes to the likes of us,we resort to spatterings instead.

But then again, orang Kay-Ell je yg rude nh kot.

" What use if we had all the first classs infrastructure, if we’re still stuck with third-class mentality" - Pak Lah

well again maybe i am being terlalu awal to comment. but i couldn’t help it.i just have nothing to do for the time being.zero.

well about being berbudi bahasa and all this, i remember my ilets teacher said that malaysians are being “xenophobic” meaning, afraid to approach other culture. lets think about it, if we ever encounter an english lady sitting besides us in the LRT, would we even bother to smile?? whats up with the trademark of malaysians being “friendly” and more “ketimuran” that actually had attracted the other culture to visit us..sigh

huh i’m babbling a lot though. but i still cannot forget the time when i was greeted happily by an english lady during my journey to class and next, a malaysian (particularly refusing to mention the race) trying hard to avoid bumping into my eyes. related ke ngan topic ni? dunno.. but thats wut my mind says.

i ws not surprise when i discovered the survey; KL-The third rudest city in universe.

witnessing with my own two eyes,i reckon the survey is indeed a truth.thus,i,hereby dont mean to overrate other cities.
to me, rude here, means not just biadab in daily conversations but also do sumthing we’re not supose to do. suffice to say, no manners. e.g.; potong barisan, x flush after guna toilet, litter-ing, x offer sit dlm public transport.

more often than not,our beautiful nature has been betrayed by widely pout on our face.
nani, thank you for covering this topic. i lost my words everytime i wanted to whine abt how malaysians had been westernized.phew!
